With the rapid development of China's large-scale pigeon breeding industry, the technology application of hatching pigeons by incubators has been improved. The hatching pigeons by incubators are different from the hatching chicks. Due to the differences in the biological characteristics of pigeons and chickens, their embryonic development is also different. How to explore the correct temperature according to their development characteristics and strive for the best incubation effect?

1、 Basis for applying temperature to hatching pigeons

Pigeon eggs have thin shells, sensitive to temperature, smooth shells, tough and dense eggshell structure, poor permeability, slow evaporation of water, and are similar to duck eggs. However, the protein content of pigeon egg is up to 74%, and the colloid is transparent, which determines the poor thermal conductivity of pigeon egg in the early stage. When incubating pigeons in the incubator, the first step is to carry out multiple incubation tests with different kinds of eggs in the same box, at the same temperature and at the same humidity. It is learned that the temperature of artificially incubated pigeons is higher than that of incubated chickens.

2、 The best temperature for hatching pigeons

According to the experimental data, determine the best temperature range for incubation at constant temperature during the whole period, and flexibly apply the temperature between 38.3 ℃ and 38.8 ℃ according to the regional climate in hot and cold days. The temperature shall be representative of the calibration. In particular, this constant temperature application data is higher than the standard 37.8 ℃ of poultry incubation (the most suitable for hatching chicken) by 0.5 ℃ to 1.0 ℃. Although it can not be said that it is the most scientific for artificial hatching, it has absolute reliability. It can not only make the hatching rate reach the highest, but also make the hatching rate beautiful and healthy, and the hatching rate is high. There is no big belly button, and the eggshell after hatching is clean, achieving satisfactory results.

3、 Control the incubation humidity of the incubator

After years of experiments with different humidity, it was found that the appropriate humidity for artificial incubation of pigeons was about 10% lower than that of chickens. It is appropriate to control the humidity between 50% and 55% during the whole incubation period. It should be noted that the humidity should not be too high, especially when a large number of pigeon eggs are hatched, do not spray water on the embryos that are not hatched. If the water is sprayed to increase the humidity by 70% to 80%, the hatching rate will be very bad; The reason is that when the box is under high temperature, high humidity and severe hypoxia, most young pigeons will swell and suffocate in the shell. If the humidity is higher than 60%~65% during the whole incubation period, it will hinder the evaporation of water in pigeon eggs and affect the normal metabolic development of embryos. The hatching time will be more different. The hatching pigeons are weak, with large abdominal edema, and protein sticking to the body. Some can't peck the shell and die, and sometimes they choke to death in the shell. The above situation will be improved when controlling reasonable humidity and paying attention to ventilation. However, it is also necessary to avoid the influence of too large a fan and too dry a humidity on the hatching due to the space in the box. It can be seen that the embryo air chamber is too large, the young pigeons' hair is short and thin, which is easy to adhere to the eggshell, the hair color is polluted, and the survival rate is low.

4、 Three measures to improve the hatching rate of pigeon incubators

  1. Repair of broken eggs: use latex, egg white, adhesive tape (medical roll type), coating or patching to hatch the broken pigeon eggs that are not clear. This alone can increase the number of young pigeons by about 3%.

  2. Statistics of inseminated and dead embryos: make detailed records and files of the eggs of inseminated and dead embryos, and handle and adjust the pigeons at any time, which plays a very important role in improving the rate of fertilized chicks.

  3. Air eggs outside the incubator: take out the old embryos of pigeon eggs that have been incubated for more than 12 days, and air the eggs outside the incubator. Incubate the newly hatched eggs in the original box as usual. This method can solve the problems in incubation at constant temperature and greatly improve the hatching rate and healthy hatching rate.

  5、 Technical difficulties in incubation

  1. The hatching rate of pigeons hatched by the incubator has been greatly improved than that of the parent pigeons. However, compared with other poultry, it is relatively low, which is not only related to breed genetics, but also directly affected by many factors, such as long-term self-breeding, inbreeding, aging, feeding management, feed nutrition, health sand, dirty egg pollution, pigeon egg collection and storage. If pigeon breeders overcome the above adverse factors, the hatching rate will be greatly improved.
